Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the show?
A typical show is between 25 - 40 minutes. This allows me to illustrate the full beauty of middle eastern dance. I use a variety of dance styles and props (veil, cane, sword, wings, or fire staff). The show may include audience participation, for example, the guest of honor may be asked to belly dance!
Is it appropriate for children?
Yes, the belly dance show is family friendly. Children often love to dance, too!
What about the music?
I provide my own music, usually on CD and the venue should provide the sound system (louder is better). I will usually stay out of sight of the party/event until my music is starting for maximum effect of the performance. Live musicians or a Middle Eastern Style DJ can be arranged upon request.
What kind of music is used?
Depending on your preference, music can range from classical Arabic to modern pop. I have an extensive music collection that includes Bollywood, contemporary Turkish, and Persian favorites. I also do fusion performances to Western music on special request. I believe that middle eastern dance is best done to the music from the region but I am also well versed in American fusion styles.
Is tipping appropriate?
Yes. Unless the host has requested otherwise, the I will gladly accept tips. Tips may be thrown above the head as a "money shower" or I will present a tipping pot as part of my show. I do not accept tips in my costume or on my body. I believe it tarnishes the polished look of the dance and the costuming.
What if I need more than one belly dancer?
I work with many other professional talented dancers in the Bay Area, we would be happy to collaborate with your needs.
How far in advance should I make the booking?
It is always better to book the show sooner than later. If you are flexible about the time that the show begins, last minute shows can often be worked in. However, Saturday nights during the holidays and during wedding season (May - September) tend to book out completely.
What about out of town and international shows?
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Shows outside of the Bay Area will need to be booked well in advance. There will be additional costs for travel expenses.
What about Bachelor Parties?
Although I dance at Wedding receptions and Bridal Showers, I do not dance for all male parties or bachelor parties.
